Come and Learn Gurmat SangeetWith the Guru's kirpa, the academy now has over 140 students in the midlands. The classes are operated on a 'termly' basis where classes run for 12 weeks followed by a small break. You can join the class at any time.
If you do not have an instrument, we can normally accomodate this by loaning you one for the class or even on a longer term basis. We can also order instruments for you from India. Please note that the instrument prices for our students are discounted from the prices quoted on this web site. Please speak to us at your nearest class for more information. From time to time, we also organise workshops and retreats. FAQs Q: I can't attend any of the above classes are you able to start a class in my area? A: If you would like us to start a class in your area please give us a call. Q: I have never learned kirtan would I still be eligible to learn? A: Yes, Many of our students have never learned kirtan. We pace our tuition at such a level that previous knowledge is not necessary. You need not have learnt kirtan or raag/music before. Q: What are the other students and class ethic like? A: One of the most important factors in learning kirtan is sangat, a positive and collegiate class ethic is very important to us. We encourage our students to work together and help each other. Students often form small practice groups where they practice together throughout the week. Q: Do you provide private tuition? A: If you would like private tuition, please contact us.... Q: I do not have an instrument, can I borrow one from you? A: Yes. It is often the case that a student does not want to commit to purchasing an instrument until they are sure that they want to continue learning. Hence you can either borrow an instrument for the classes, or loan an instrument which you can take home for the duration of the term. You would be expected to pay a deposit for this instrument from which a small amount (typically £15-£20 depending on the instrument) will be kept as the loan payment. If during the term you decide that you want to purchase an instrument through the academy, the deposit amount is put towards the cost of the new instrument (i.e. you are not charged the loan fee!). Q: Can I attend a class 'just to see what it is like'? A: Yes of course you can! There is no charge if you are looking to have a 'taster session'. |
