Classes are structured by ability for beginners, intermediate and advanced students. Some groups are organised by age so students of similar age and ability can support each other. Younger ages may be suited to smaller tanti saaj instruments such as the dilruba and sarangi.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”What age are tabla classes for?” tab_id=”21ab81a5-386e-415621507650691562150865775″][vc_column_text]Classes are for all ages, as they are structured by ability for beginners, intermediate and advanced students. Try to build practice into your daily routine and commit to it. It is important to be fully focused so minimize distractions by switching off your phone, laptop and TV. Set goals to structure your practice, e.g. varying speed, fingering techniques, scales, shabads, alaaps etc. When beginning practice should be longer in order to build familiarity and muscle memory. Students practice alone and arrange practice sessions and gatherings so they can support and motivate each other.<\/p>\n

As well as instrument practice, listen to kirtan in the Gurmat Sangeet genre, other kirtan styles and a range of instrumental and vocal Indian classical music. This will help to develop your aural skills and appreciation for kirtan. You will improve your ability to identify pitches, intervals, melody, chords, rhythms, and other basic elements of music through hearing.<\/p>\n

We recommend seeing kirtan and Indian classical music in person and there are a range of concert performances by local, national and international artists that you can attend throughout the year. Stay open-minded, curious and committed and you will see progress in your kirtan.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=”Do I need to know how to sing to attend?” tab_id=”1561588874319-6-815621507650691562150865775″][vc_column_text]No. We will teach you and you will progress alongside learning your instrument.
